After the main transformers for the Becromal substation project had been stuck on Reyðarfjörður for 5 weeks because of frost and heavy load restictions on the roads they finally made it to Akureyri and on location at Krossanes last friday March 20. The transofrmers are around 40 tons each so they could not we transported the normal route over the bridge at Jökulsá á fjöllum by Grímstadir. They had to be transported on the road that follows the shore line, through Voppnafjörður, Raufarhöfn and few other towns. The state of those roads is not the best and at a steep hill near Vopnafjördur, the trucks had to be helped and towed up by a road grader. After that the transformers were succsessfully lifted to their places at the substation and it was a good feeling to see those 40 M.kr. units finally at their place. ![]() All who participated did their part very well and we thank Samskip, PI Cranes and ET for their professionalism during the transport.
